About Redfield Diagnostics

Difficult code needs careful diagnosis.

Redfield Diagnostics works on software that needs to be understood before it can be changed: unclear codebases, missing knowledge, fragile code paths and technical decisions with real cost behind them.

Founded by Dan Redfield.

Redfield Diagnostics is founded by Dan Redfield, a software developer and reverse engineer whose work includes leading development of a worldwide intranet platform for one of the world’s largest optical retail groups and commercially porting POSTAL to the SEGA Dreamcast.

His background spans raw ASM reverse engineering, low-level debugging, technical archaeology, legacy code, internal tools and plain-English diagnostic writing.

That experience is useful when the work is not a clean greenfield build. Often the job is to read what already exists, find the hidden dependency, recover the lost assumption, explain the risk, and then decide what to build, fix or leave alone.

Core strengths

  • Reverse engineering and low-level debugging.
  • Legacy and inherited codebase investigation.
  • Focused code fixes for real codebases.
  • Clear technical explanation for non-specialists.
  • Risk-aware judgement before expensive decisions.

Working principle

Understand first, then change.

Redfield does not start by selling a rewrite, a platform, a preferred stack or a generic development package. The work starts by finding out what the code does, what risk it carries, and what decision needs to be made.

Build

Custom tools, utilities and practical software with clear boundaries.

Rescue

Bugs, broken scripts, inherited code and fragile AI-generated outputs.

Diagnose

Plain-English technical notes that turn uncertainty into next steps.
